The Nissan Skyline has a history dating way back to 1957 and has over the curse of time become one of the most well-known and respected Japanese performance cars. Famed for their power, speed and handling it’s easy to understand why the Nissan Skyline remains a favourite for many driving enthusiasts.

This is the V35 (body shape) Skyline which was introduced in Japan in 2001. In Japan there were several versions of this car produced – a 2.5 litre model, a 3.0 litre model, and the top of the range 3.5 litre model. Most models are 4 door saloons – but the 3.5 litre model (the 350GT) was also produced as a coupe – which is what we’re proud to be able to present here.

The 350GT shares the same engine and also chassis platform as the Nissan 350Z. So the performance, drive and general ‘feel’ of these two cars is very similar. In fact, many people have commented that both cars are also visually very similar as well. However – the 350GT has a big trump card up its sleeve – it has four seats!

Like with the vast majority of four seater coupe’s, the rear seat space is a little cramped and so maybe not practical for every day use for adults (hence the term 2+2 seats rather than 4 seats is used for many coupe’s – meaning two main front seats plus two rear seats for occasional use). But for sheer convenience this is a massive plus for the 350GT, and the rear space is actually considerably more generous than most 4 seat coupes!

The V35 body shape of the Nissan Skyline was never produced in the UK – meaning that owners desperate to own one of these superb cars in right hand drive had to import one from Japan – which is exactly the case with this particular car, which was imported direct from Japan in 2007.

This is a true top of the range car, and was fitted with Nissan’s Skyline Premium Pack (the equivalent of the GT Pack for the Nissan 350Z) – and so the car is jam-packed with optional extra’s including leather seats, electric seats, DVD Sat Nav (original Japanese system which we BELIEVE probably works in the UK, but menu’s are in Japanese), Bose sound system, and 18” wheels.

This model is fitted with the excellent 3.5 litre V6 engine (the same engine that is found in the 350Z) and produces a breath-taking 272bhp and provides an excellent and solid drive. The car hits 0-60mph in just 6.2 seconds and gives a very performance orientated yet smooth drive.

The original owner was an absolute fanatic for these cars. Not only has he changed the exterior badges to match the USA G35 model (see Exterior section below) he has also sourced the entire English user manual for the G35 and printed out every page and placed it into a massive A4 folder, with each page in its own individual plastic cover, as well as having the original photo’s from Auto Trader from when he bought the car etc. Make no mistake – this particular chap was clearly a true hardcore enthusiast of these wonderful cars, and the condition and standard of the car are a testament to his loving ownership.

THE EXTERIOR:

The car is finished in stunning silver which is really eye-catching and suits the shape and lines of the car, and the condition is excellent all round. As with all performance cars, you will find a few minor stone chips around the front bumper if you look hard – but the condition is genuinely excellent.

Being fussy (which we are) there are a couple of small marks on the rear bumper, but nothing that really stands out unless you’re specifically searching for minor faults, and they in no way detract from the overall look and condition of the car. The rear bumper could easily be re-sprayed by separate negotiation if required, but you’d have to be really fussy to warrant it as the marks don’t really stand out at all.

The car has the original 18” Nissan factory fitted alloy wheels, and all four wheels have recently been refurbished and so are in excellent order. The tyres are also in very good order, with good tread on all wheels.

We have also had brand new front brake disc and pads fitted to the car by Nissan, and the rears still have loads of life remaining – so the brakes are good all round.

This car was owned by a HUGE enthusiast of these cars, and he has changed the external badges on the car. This model was released in the USA (in left hand drive form naturally) as the Infiniti G35, and the owner has changed the exterior badges (and also alloy wheel centre caps) to the USA Infiniti versions – probably to give the car a more exotic look. All badges, trims and logo’s on the interior remain completely original. The badges could be reverted with relative ease, but the Infiniti badges (especially on the grille) do look really nice and do make the car look that little bit more unusual. Personally, we’d keep them as is!

THE INTERIOR:

The Skyline 350Z is a compact sports car, and the cabin is surprisingly big and well thought-out. Everything is very efficiently placed based around the driver, and all controls are within easy and immediate reach.

The seats are finished in black leather, and all seats are in absolutely perfect condition. There are no tears, rips or stains and are exactly as they should be. The front seats are fully electric.

This particular car has the Premium Pack optional upgrade fitted from new by Nissan, and so is packed with optional extra’s. Please note that everything is fully operational, but being a Japanese import the Sat Nav menu’s are in Japanese, and the radio (and TV) work on a different frequency than we use in the UK and so not all stations can be currently tuned in to. However, you can get kits which change the frequency of the radio to make them work fully in the UK – but that’s outside of our field of expertise unfortunately – so please use Google for lots of information on such kits! Naturally, CD playback is unaffected and the car is fitted with a 5 CD changer in the centre console (rather than the boot) for easy and immediate access, and you can easily get an iPod or MP3 player to work with the existing stereo without conversion.

The car has a pop-up screen which is for the Sat Nav system. It’s worth noting that the disc in the system has been changed to a European maps disc (rather than Japanese maps), so we assume that the system will work in this country. HOWEVER, the menu’s are in Japanese and so without knowledge of the language the Sat Nav unit is effectively not usable.

SERVICE HISTORY:

This car is a Japanese Import (this particular Skyline model was never released officially in the UK, and so all 350GT’s in the UK will be imports). The car comes with the original owners pack and also a selection of receipts from Nissan Japan for parts/servicing etc. As to be expected, this paperwork is all in Japanese.

We have been advised that when the car was first imported in 2007 it had 26,500km on the clock (around 16,450 miles), and the Japanese history complete with Nissan dealership stamps does seem to support this (low mileage ‘weekend’ cars are not uncommon in Japan).

The car has been converted from km to miles (and kph to mph) and the current mileage is 28,950, meaning that the car has travelled around 12,500 miles since import in 2007.

We have also checked the mileages of the MOT’s with VOSA, and they confirm that the first MOT in 2007 was 16,463 miles, the 2008 MOT was 22,871 miles, the 2009 MOT was 23,265 miles, and the current MOT shows 28,362 miles (15th February 2010). So that again helps confirm the validity of the mileage.

Please note that because this is a Japanese import it’s very hard to confirm that the mileage is completely accurate as we are reliant upon the honesty of the previous owners (as with any car), and so we are unable to offer any guarantee in this regard. However, the Japanese history, and VOSA MOT history does support the mileage, and in our professional opinion the car drives exactly how you would expect a sub 30,000 mile car to drive – it is super smooth and solid – as you will see and feel for yourself when you test drive the vehicle.

The car would almost definitely have been serviced by the company that originally imported it into the UK, and in addition we also have an invoice for a service done by Lion Garages (a Rover and MG Specialist) on 15th February 2010 at 28,362 miles.

However, we like things to be done correctly, so we immediately sent the car in to Nissan and got them to do a full MAJOR service on the car (LEVEL 3) – which includes changing of the oil, air filter, spark plugs, brake fluid and so on – their highest level of service that they offer. They have given the car a clean bill of health, and the car is supplied with a new official UK Nissan Service History book, stamped for this major service.

Whilst with Nissan, we also had them replace the front brake discs and pads as these were showing some wear. The rears have very little wear, and so the brakes should be good for many miles to come.

The car was fully serviced on the 29th March 2010 at Nissan Coleford at 28,914 miles.

The next service is not now due for approximately another 9,500 miles (like the Nissan 350Z, we would recommend that these cars are serviced every 9,000 – 10,000 miles).
